Home iPhone Duo App Readiness
Make your app ready for iPhone Duo
Apps that aren’t rebuilt for the foldable run letterboxed on the inner display, with black bars around them. We update native iOS and Flutter apps so they fill both screens, adapt to every pose and stay clear of the fold.

SDK decides
What users see right now

Your app's SDK decides how much of the screen it gets

iPhone Duo runs existing apps without changes, but in a compatibility mode. How much of the inner display your app uses depends on the SDK it was last built with. Pick one to see the difference.

Full display. Built with iOS 27.1, the app reaches every edge and can show a sidebar and two panes on the inner display.

What changes in your codebase

Six things that break or look wrong on a foldable

Poses
Closed, open, partially folded

Your app must look right on the outer and inner displays, in every pose and rotation, and continue seamlessly when the device opens or closes.

Layout
Size classes, not screen size

The inner display ignores supported orientations. Layouts that check userInterfaceIdiom, orientation or hard-coded widths need to respond to size classes instead.

Screens
Two displays, no "main" screen

UIScreen.main is ambiguous on a two-display device and is headed for deprecation. Read bounds from the window scene.

The fold
Reserved regions

Custom views and bars can collide with the fold or the cameras. The new reserved-region APIs tell you where content must not go.

Navigation
Toolbars move to the side

In some poses, navigation and toolbars lay out vertically. Hand-built bars often don't adapt; sidebars and split views should take over on the inner display.

Hardware
Three cameras, Split View

Opening or rotating can switch the active camera, and iPhone users can now run two apps side by side. Capture flows and asymmetric safe areas need handling.

What we do

iPhone Duo adaptation for native and Flutter apps

Native iOS: Swift, SwiftUI, UIKit

We rebuild your app against the iOS 27.1 SDK and Xcode 27.1, then fix what the bigger canvas exposes.

SwiftUI · UIKit · Auto Layout · AVFoundation · Xcode Device Hub

Flutter and cross-platform

Flutter apps need a rebuilt iOS runner plus responsive Dart layouts. We do both, and bridge to native APIs where Flutter doesn't reach yet.

Flutter · Dart · BLoC · Platform channels · Swift interop

How an engagement runs

From letterboxed to "Made for iPhone Duo"

STEP 1

Audit

We run your current build on the iPhone Duo simulator in every pose and list what breaks, by screen and by severity.

STEP 2

Adapt

SDK upgrade, size-class layouts, navigation and safe-area fixes. Your app fills both displays correctly.

STEP 3

Enhance

Optional extras that make it shine: two-pane views, pose-specific layouts, content on both displays at once.

STEP 4

Ship

Regression testing across iPhone models, TestFlight builds and App Store submission support.

Questions
Common questions
Yes, it will open and run. But until it’s rebuilt with the newer SDK, it shows in a compatibility frame on the inner display instead of using the full screen. Users notice.
It’s the first step. The rebuild gives your app the full display, which then exposes any layout that assumed a fixed phone size: stretched screens, toolbars in the wrong place, content under the fold. Those are the fixes we do.
Yes. Flutter is a core part of our mobile practice. We update the iOS runner, make your Dart layouts adapt to the larger display, and use platform channels for native features like the hinge angle.
No. Xcode 27.1’s Device Hub simulates opening, closing, folding and rotating the device. We also test on hardware before release.
They make it more robust. Adaptive layouts work better on every iPhone and iPad size, and we run regression tests on the devices your users have.
